McManis Cabernet Sauvignon

McManis Cabernet Sauvignon

McManis 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Lodi, California
Purchased for $9 in Wayne NJ in January 2021

This was a very pleasant surprise and a great find for the price and immediately became an instant favorite. The label seemed generic along with the verbiage “Family Estate” and “Certified Sustainable”.  These terms automatically make me think that they print this on the label to market to the masses. Even if they do, this is a wine that breaks from the pack of the usual Cabernet Sauvignons.

Even before I took a sip, I brought the glass to my nose and immediately knew this was a winner.  Very rich, full bodied, flavorful and bold with blueberry, black currant and black cherry notes notes (just as the label says, and that is not always true).  It does have a hint of smoke from the barrel aging. This is a fun and furious break from most Cabernet Sauvignons.

This gets a 5 out of 5 rating, especially at $9 price per bottle.
